Changes

Posted by Terry Glover

Change has always been at the heart of the process here at the Cake Shop. Right now, we’re turning and facing the strange, and making changes that are going to give us the space we need to reflect and grow. We’re scaling back our opening hours and offer in order to focus on the wellbeing of our staff and to dream up what comes next on the Cake Shop journey.

We’re currently open Tuesday to Saturday. Between 10 a.m. and noon, the space will be available to hire for private meetings: it’s an ideal spot for interviews, a peaceful cup of coffee with your team or a spell of uninterrupted concentration. Get in touch via email to enquire about bookings. In the afternoons, we’ll be open from 12 until 4 p.m. with our usual counter of cakes baked by the unparalleled Nick Fu, as well as Monmouth coffee, Jing tea and a choice of hand-crafted sandwiches featuring some of our signature flavours.

We’re excited about what the future holds. We want to reshape our workflow to reflect the way that society has changed over the last years and the big lessons that Covid taught us. We want to recapture the spirit of play and experimentation that has always given the Cake Shop its sparkle, and get new projects brewing.

Some of the ideas I’m currently passionate about are a book club for cookbooks, tea ceremonies and a pickle competition revival – and I can’t wait to see what other ideas our team brings to the table. It’s a gift to have this space to recharge, explore and let our sense of curiosity and enthusiasm guide us to the next phase.
