Once you're told you have an attention span you have to begin treating it as though it were a commodity which has to be bargained for or purchased... It turns our sensoria into a marketplace.
Author Joshua Cohen came to the shop celebrate the publication of ATTENTION! a (short) history (Notting Hill).
He was joined by writer and critic Brian Dillon for a dicussion of the cultural history of the concept of attention: an evening of conversation which ranged across centuries and subjects, from Saint Augustine to amphetamines.
Brian Dillon will be returning to the shop on 18 June for a discussion of the work of French artist and filmmaker Chris Marker. Book tickets here.
