Peter Campbell and Julian Bell
Wednesday 24 March 2010, 7 p.m. · 72 minutesIf you're painting in good faith, you have a sense that you have to to invent the act of representation.
Julian Bell and Peter Campbell have both worked as painters and written about art: Julian Bell most recently in Mirror of the World (Thames and Hudson), Peter Campbell in At... (Hyphen Press), a collection of his contributions to The London Review of Books. They talked about things that painters can and can't do, in particular about the relationship painters have had to old art and the limits and opportunities that arise from society, its technology and its institutions.
