Robert Chandler: Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk

Robert Chandler appeared at the London Review Bookshop to celebrate the publication of his new translation of Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk, Nikolay Leskov’s infamous tale of adultery and murder which inspired the libretto for Shostakovich’s opera. Chandler gave a compelling reading from the work, followed by a talk on Leskov’s life and work.
