In response to a challenge posed by francophone novelist Alain Mabanckou, award-winning translators Sarah Ardizzone and Frank Wynne went head to head. Each produced a translation of the same short text by the novelist, which they presented to Mabanckou in a discussion chaired by writer and translator Daniel Hahn. Together, they debated and resolved the differences in the English versions, exploring the translation process and the question of authorial intent.
